Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU)

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a public university located in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province. Founded in 1952 as a university foundation and made a public institution in 1957, it is the leading higher education institution of northern Sumatra and one of the country's historic large universities. USU is structured in faculties covering medicine, law, economics and business, engineering, agriculture, mathematics and natural sciences, public health, social and political sciences, pharmacy, psychology, veterinary medicine and forestry. Its graduate school, established in 1985, coordinates master's and doctoral programmes across most of these disciplines. Tuition follows the national UKT system, paid each semester according to family economic capacity and set annually by rectoral decision; detailed per-programme and per-admission-route tariffs are published on the university's official "UKT and IPI rates" pages, with the ministry having cancelled any fee increase for the 2024/2025 academic year.
