Universitas Terbuka (UT)

Universitas Terbuka (UT), the Indonesia Open University, is a public institution founded in 1984 in Jakarta and dedicated to distance education. It is the fourth-largest university in the world by enrolment, with more than 400,000 students, and was modelled on the UK's Open University. UT offers diploma, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in fields ranging from law, management and accounting to computer science, mathematics, agriculture, languages, tourism and education. Its teaching model combines printed modules, digital platforms, online tutorials and learning centres across the Indonesian archipelago, making higher education accessible to remote students and working adults alike. The university is known for its highly affordable fees: tuition for undergraduate programmes ranges from roughly IDR 1,150,000 to IDR 3,400,000 per semester depending on the service scheme chosen, while master's programmes cost around IDR 8,500,000 per semester, making it one of the country's most affordable public universities.
