Bifröst University

Bifröst University, founded in 1918 within the Icelandic cooperative movement and granted university status in 1988, is located in the Norðurárdalur valley north of Borgarnes. A private non-profit institution, it has long been known for its residential campus and strong community spirit. Its academic offer focuses on business administration, law and the social sciences, with bachelor's and master's programmes. A pioneer of digital distance learning for more than twenty years, it now operates as a flexible online university; Icelandic is the primary language of instruction, supplemented by courses taught in English. The university has abolished tuition fees to promote equal access to higher education and supports research and innovation through specialised centres. It prepares students for positions of responsibility and leadership in Iceland and internationally.
